Ground Zero hosts Creator of the 30 second kneel down student prayer movement
New London, PA-October 31, 2003 – While other teens were dressing up and trick or treating, over 100 students attended the No Reputation Rally.  Tom Sipling, creator of the Thirty -Second Kneel Down, came to Ground Zero Friday night and shared his vision for the coming student prayer revolution.  This is the generation that is going to bring prayer back into their schools.  Students across the nation are taking 30 seconds each morning to kneel at their lockers and pray for their friends, teachers and school; and the movement is growing.

The doors opened at 7pm and the teens came in and headed downstairs to the game room.  Several teens played pool and air hockey while others preferred ping pong and foosball.  Some students hung out in the lounge while others battled it out snowboarding on the six Playstation 2, N64 and Game Cube systems.  Around 7:20 we opened the door to the auditorium and teens began to pour into the aisles to the sound of loud, upbeat music, and two video screen walls showing information about upcoming events.   Rev. Mike Atkins, Pastor of Children and Youth at New London Presbyterian Church, welcomed the excited crowd before introducing the speaker for the evening, Tom Sipling.

Sipling’s message impacted a lot of student's lives that night.  Some students made the 30KD commitment to take 30 seconds each morning to kneel at their school lockers and pray.  Others made the decision to follow Jesus for the first time.  He started the evening by demonstrating how reputation, temptation, and sin can keep you from being free by walking across the stage with three teens clinging to his legs and back.  Then he explained how inviting Jesus Christ to work in your life can help you to break free from temptation and sin.  Sipling showed a video about how students across the nation and in other countries are kneeling down every day at their lockers, and praying for their schools.  One student in the video said that we must stand up and fight for God…on our knees, every day, in prayer.

Sipling said, "After 40 years of not having organized prayer in public schools that it is time to bring it back."  His goal is to get 1,051,200 youth to kneel down each day and pray for 30 seconds, and that would be one year's worth of prayer.  Sipling wants to reach 250,000 youths with this message message.

After the message, students headed in the GZ Café for free pizza, snacks and drinks.  Some stayed upstairs and ate while others returned to the game room for more video games and air hockey action.  Some just hung out in the lounge with their friends and talked.  Every student who attended received a large bag of candy as they walked out the door.

“This was an incredible night that really energized the teens,” remarked Josh Mericle, a Senior at Avon Grove High School.

Rob Dilenno, a Junior at Avon Grove said, “I was at a mission trip in West Virginia that Tom spoke at and I committed to do 30kd.  I'll tell ya, 30 seconds is a long time to pray when there are so many who are hostile towards Christians standing around the halls.  After taking what is sometimes 30 seconds of abuse, I go to a more private display of prayer in the cafeteria where a prayer group meets at 7:30 to pray for five minutes before school.  About 25 have been meeting there and I feel as though God's getting ready to spark a spiritual harvest here and I ask for prayers that He would move quickly and powerfully and bring many in our school to Him and closer to Him in school this year.”
