1. What did God teach you this week? How did it transform you?
hen Hurricane Katrina hit, I was like, “God, why did You allow this to happen?” But after spending time with these people I realize that though they have lost so many material possessions, the people of D'Iberville have grown so much in faith and community. “Nothing is impossible for God.” -Luke 1:37. This week has made me realize that Katrina was truly a blessing.
2. Tell at least one experience you had where you saw the power of God and it touched you.
Christians always hear about the power of prayer, but I had never really seen or experienced it firsthand. At worship Thursday night when fifty-six teens cried out to God, all I could do at first was sit and look around and say, “God, You are so amazing!” My view on prayer has totally changed—it's hard for me to explain.
3. Tell of one experience where God used you in a powerful way... something that impacted you.
My first homeowner of the week, Trisha, is now pregnant, and her boyfriend broke up with her because of it; she is twenty years old. I just talked with her and listened, and I think she really needed that. She is so confident that she'll be okay on her own, and once again I am struck by these people's strong hope for a better tomorrow.
4. What are you going to take home with you? How are you going to be different?
Philippians 2:4 “Don't think only of your own affairs, but be interested in others, too, and what they are doing.” God has blessed me so much and yet I still complain and whine and this week God has just been like, “Megan, shut up!” These past few weeks I've been looking at Philippians 2 and I feel God is telling me “These are your thoughts, and this is how you fix them.”
5. What was your favorite part of the trip? What did you like most?
Honestly, just doing things like building bookshelves was awesome. My favorite part was helping these people try and return to a life of normalcy.
6. Is there anything else you want to add?
At the beginning of the summer I had to choose between this trip and a youth camp that I've gone to all of my life. I know I made the right decision. Before this trip I only knew a couple of people at GZ and I'm one of those people who doesn't like going where I don't know anyone so I would make excuses for not going to GZ. So I feel like God is saying, “Ha! No more excuses—go to GZ!”
7. Why do you want to go on this trip?
I have always wanted to go on a missions trip and when Katrina hit I wanted to go down and help but it was in the middle of school so I really couldn’t. Now I can help with Katrina and go on a Missions trip.
8. Briefly give your testimony.
I have been raised in church, but I have not always “known” God. Normally, in the summer, I attend a church camp in Georgia and one year I met God. I was 14. Now, God continues to work in my life. In recent months my family whas went through some troubles and God has really been there for me. He is also really helping me with my choice of friends.
