As soon as I heard about the Mission Trip to Mississippi I wanted to go. I signed up and expected it to be a trip of serving others and that was all. But God being God, He did more than just that. He changed my outlook on life and showed and taught me things I may not have learned otherwise. On Sunday we toured Biloxi and in the midst of the destruction and devastation I saw a flower that had just bloomed. To me this was a sign of hope. So that thought stuck with me throughout the week. Monday through Wednesday my group put in insulation in an entire house. Thursday and Friday we were at a different house. These two days were my favorite. The house we were working on had up to ten feet of water. The house during the hurricane did a half turn. The whole house shifted but it stayed standing. I found that amazing. Later that house was put up onto eight foot stilts. With this house we did more insulation and we began the drywall. The homeowners name was Lou and he was the nicest guy. The faith and hope that the people of Mississippi have is truly amazing! They all have been nothing but a blessing. On Thursday night we went to the local beach to worship and honestly I didn’t want to go. I was tired and worn out. But God being God He did something I wasn’t expecting. That night I got prayed over for my stomach- for the past year I have had numerous tests and have had a few doctors’ appointments. They found nothing but my stomach pain continued. Thursday night I truly believe I was healed and I haven’t had any pain since! Praise God! The rest of the night I was kind of “taken back” and in awe of what God had done and I will be forever thankful. This week God has taught me to have more faith and live for the moment and stay more focused on Him because with God all things are possible.
Why do you want to go on this trip?
I want to go on this trip to share God’s love and grace with those around me. I want to simply reach others for Jesus Christ. I also want to grow deeper in relationships with those around me.
Briefly give your testimony.
My “theme” in life has always been live everyday to its absolute fullest and live for Jesus everyday. Life is just too short to be anything but happy and that’s what Jesus wants for us. I surrender my life daily to Jesus and trust him to work in every aspect of my life.
